Rudolph Buchbinder, world renowned classical pianist, came to Dubway to connect with a dozen radio stations for interviews about his forthcoming Mozart recording on forte piano.

World famous classical violinist, Joshua Bell was interviewing with radio stations across the country from the Dubway’s Blue Control Room, announcing his conductorship of Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, as well as his new album of Beethoven Symphonies No. 4 & 7, with the same orchestra.

In December, Dubway Studios hosted a radio broadcast of the syndicated radio show, On Point with Tom Ashcroft. Producer/writer Paul Young and engineer Julian Evans spent tracking ADR for upcoming indy film release of the award winning play, “In the Summer Pavilion.”

Dubway’s production audio teamed up with PBS station WGBH for a film recording of famed mezzo soprano Renée Fleming - in a Fifth Avenue apartment, accompanied by a quartet of guitar, cello, violin, and piano. The shoot will air as part of longtime culinary show, Lydia’s Italy.

Eric Hutchinson performed at the City Winery, and Dubway’s remote recording team was on hand to multitrack the live show, and subsequently mix it, complete with all the live show banter that endears Eric to his fans that packed the house.

Super Bowl 2012 - CBS Sports brought the world renowned Rebirth Brass Band into Dubway to impart their New Orleans funk to this year’s Super Bowl. They rendered their own inimitably funky version of the CBS Sports theme, bringing a flavor of the Big Easy to the TV broadcast and pre-game build up. 40 Million listeners!

July - October 2012

A new live-action PBS series, "Odd Squad," has now been green-lighted for production. Inner Dog Productions led the production team, tapping Dubway’s sound designer Keith Rigling and mixer Nathaniel Reichman to handle the audio post on the pilot.

Cabaret legend and Broadway star, Karen Mason, tracked with producer Paul Rolnick for her upcoming album release.

Spanish writer/director Andres Muschietti, tied in from Barcelona to direct an ADR session for Universal Pictures’ "Mama."

The spacious & beautiful Mezzanine studio was also used for a couple of live video shoots - Brooklyn’s indy rockers The Disappointment shot a great performance video, and Elizabeth Chan (currently fighting her way to success on Failure Club) performed one of her many Christmas songs for a WPIX film crew.

John Findlay was tracking his new album , "In2 the Spirit," a compilation of modern jazz/blues/fusion takes on traditional Christmas songs. Hot off a tour with Steely Dan, and gearing up for a another with guitarist (and Dubway recordist) Wayne Krantz, legendary drummer Keith Carlock was banging the skins on the session.

For VH1 Unplugged, the crew recorded British singer/songwriter Rita Ora, the Ohio indy rockers Walk the Moon, and country superstar Carrie Underwood. The subsequent broadcasts are viewable at VH1.

Mike Brosnan, a renowned and exceptional finger-style guitarist, powerful singer, and gifted songwriter, was recording his original tunes.

We recorded London-born rizing star Lianne La Havas live at the Bowery Ballroom, and subsequently mixed the material for the prestigious Nonesuch Records label.

The queen of chamber jazz, Meg Okura & The Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble were in the studio tracking new arrangements for a few of Ryuichi Sakamoto classic compositions.

And Paul also produced soulful sessions (including a full string section) for Kevin Dozier (2011 Bistro and MAC Award Winner - Outstanding Vocalist) in anticipation of his upcoming album.

This Thing Films took the crew from the East end of Long Island, to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on another dramatic production - "Like So Many Things."

Tony Grey, renowned virtuoso bassist, tracked a rhythm section for his next album. The stellar section included Mark Guiliana (drums), Gregoire Maret (harmonica), Romain Collin (piano), and John Shannon (guitar).

Filmmaker Jay Stern came in for the surround sound mix "Spirit Cabinet," a film shot over the course of 5 days in the Bronx. Look for it on the festival circuit late 2012.

Rolling Stone describes her as, "Ella Fitzgerald on speed beating the shit out of Regina Spektor." That’s Stephanie Nilles in a nutshell. A collection of sea shanties make up her upcoming album, "Takes a Big Ship," which she recorded at Dubway. She set herself up in the Mezzanine studio for a week, with her 4 piece band, to track everything live - including her vocal performance from behind the piano. Engineer Mike Judeh ran the session.

Legendary Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri spent some time tracking & mixing several songs, making good use of Dubway’s selection of vintage keys (Hammond B3 with Leslie, Wurlitzer, Juno 106), as well as the grand piano, and augmenting with a few of his own exotic machines. Rhythm tracks included two drum kits facing each other and tracking live in the big room. Big sounds!

Former Daily Show correspondent Mo Rocca definitely had Dubway engineer Anthony Gibney cracking up while tracking vocal overdubs for the documentary, “Electoral Dysfunction.”

The Make a Wish Foundation invited David Hyde Pierce (perhaps most renowned for his Niles Crane character on Frasier, but also for his myriad Broadway, film, and television appearances) into Dubway for some participation in their outreach campaign.

Another instance of Dubway’s participation in the visual arts, artist Kara Walker asked Dubway to help exhume the music from a 50 year old reel of tape.

John Stamos spent some time in the studio tracking vocals.

Scott Alan recorded finishing touches on his album slated for October release, featuring performances by Broadway luminaries, including Stephanie Block, Marc Broussard, Julia Murney and Kerry Ellis.

Perhaps best known for her Broadway and international smash hit “Runaways”, Elizabeth Swados and music director and arranger, Kris Kukul, are now hard at work on 3 compositions, “Prince and the Pauper,” “The Bottom Line,” and “Lullaby and Goodnight.”

Well Emmy Award winning composer Gary Schreiner has heard your prayers and spent some time at Dubway recording his big band rendition of The Beatles classic! Producer and ukulele player David Barrat has also taken on the entire Beatles catalog.

Grammy Award winning Beninoise singer-songwriter and activist, Angélique Kidjo worked on some recording for the new documentary "Fifty Years of Folk: The History of the Newport Folk Festival." Naka Production's documentary showcases the 50 Year Anniversary of the historic festival.

Kaleta (the original guitar player for Fela Kuti’s Africa 80s band) was tasked with writing a song in a day, with songster Ben Arthur, while Dubway producers Al Houghton & Mike Crehore produced the same day recording session. Watch the documentation of the writing and recording of the thirteen piece afro pop band on Dubway Days.

Dubway recently had the pleasure of hosting a rare session featuring legendary saxophonist Giuseppi Logan accompanied by the incomparable Jessica Lurie and Ed Pettersen, of the Mad King Edmund collective. The group was building off the work they did here last year and providing some fresh tracks of pure improv with Guiseppi and Jessica switching instruments on the fly, interweaving their performances with the guitar and bass of Ed and bassist Larry Roland. The record is destined for the French record label, Improvising Beings, with a very limited US release in partnership with Split Rock. Read more about the Mad King Edmund Collective and incredible resurgence of Giuseppi Logan.

Sonic storyteller Billy Martin (Modesky Martin and Wood) had us all on the edge of our seats recording his string quartet score for the new film “7E” from director Teddy Schenck.

Cate Le Bon did some tracking in Dubway’s spacious Mezzanine for Breakthru Radio’s “Studio Sessions” video collection.

Season 3 of Nickelodeon’s Bubble Guppies was green lighted for production, having garnered viewership to rank it America’s No 1 kid’s TV show. Rhumba handles the music composition and production, and, through Dubway, the dialog as well.

September - December 2011

Wayne Krantz, renowned jazz guitarist (Donald Fagen, the Brecker Bros, Steely Dana), was in Dubway’s live room cutting tracks for his new album with compatriots Owen Biddle (The Roots), Nate Wood, and Henry Hey. The sessions fully substantiated The New Yorker’s description of Mr. Krantz as “A talented guitarist with a boundless imagination.” Mike Judeh and Stephen Schappler engineered the sessions.

And kudos also to Fransisco Núñez, Artistic Director and Founder of the Young People's Chorus of New York City, for his receipt of 2011 MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship. Francisco and his chorus were recently returned to Dubway, recording a piece by Francisco and NYC composer Jim Papoulis.

Mexican film/TV star, and Warner Bros. recording artist Ximena and songwriter Alex Wong were featured on an Episode of Dubway Days, wherein the artists meet at the studio with the aim to write, record, and produce a song from scratch – in a single day! With a film crew on hand, the entire process is documented, and it’s always startling how great a song can pop out of these spontaneous conditions. "Here We Are" is no exception.

Another Dubway Days production – this time featuring Kaleta and his 13 member band, Zozo Afrobeat, live. Inspired by Fela Kuti’s Nigerian music from the ‘70s and ‘80’s, the song that sprang out of this session’s cowrite with Ben Arthur, "O Be So," grooves unbelievably! The video documentation of the session is due out in April.

Maria Logis was putting the finishing touches on her album, which was recorded live at Dubway by Joe Barbaria (Talking Heads, 10,000 Maniacs, Reggie Workman, The Cars, John Patitucci)., Maria’s longtime pianist and collaborator, is producing the sessions, enlisting performances by Justin Flynn, Helen Yee, Pete Smith, Carlo De Rosa, Dan Rieser, and Makaria Psiliteli. Congratulations to The NYCity Slickers for their album release "Layin’ It Down." The 8-piece acoustic band tracked live in Dubway’s big penthouse recording space, and mixed their debut with engineer Mike Judeh.

Dubway was back at work recording and mixing a live production of The Fray for Live from the Artist’s Den. Mike Judeh engineered both the tracking and mixing.

Julian Fleisher, noted actor, singer, and performer brought Isabel Rose into the studio to produce her new album.

Wayne Krantz, renowned jazz guitarist (Donald Fagen, the Brecker Bros, Steely Dana), was in Dubway’s live room cutting tracks for his new album with compatriots Owen Biddle (The Roots), Nate Wood, and Henry Hey. The sessions fully substantiated The New Yorker’s description of Mr. Krantz as “A talented guitarist with a boundless imagination.” Mike Judeh and Stephen Schappler engineered the sessions.

Guitarist Marc Ciprut (Joss Stone, Steven Santoro) also spent a day at Dubway, recording a full band for his upcoming cd release.

Maria Logis was putting the finishing touches on her album, which was recorded live at Dubway by Joe Barbaria (Talking Heads, 10,000 Maniacs, Reggie Workman, The Cars, John Patitucci). Jon Cowherd, Maria’s longtime pianist and collaborator, is producing the sessions, enlisting performances by Justin Flynn, Helen Yee, Pete Smith, Carlo De Rosa, Dan Rieser, and Makaria Psiliteli. Dubway’s John Thayer assisted.

Mexican film/TV star, and Warner Bros. recording artist Ximena and songwriter Alex Wong were featured on an Episode of Dubway Days, wherein the artists meet at the studio with the aim to write, record, and produce a song from scratch – in a single day! With a film crew on hand, the entire process is documented, and it’s always startling how great a song can pop out of these spontaneous conditions. "Here We Are" is no exception.

Another Dubway Days production – this time featuring Kaleta and his 13 member band, Zozo Afrobeat, live. Inspired by Fela Kuti’s Nigerian music from the ‘70s and ‘80’s, the song that sprang out of this session’s cowrite with Ben Arthur, "O Be So," grooves unbelievably! The video documentation of the session is due out in April.

January - August 2011

Long time pals They Might Be Giants were in the studio to score an animated scene in the upcoming Christmas film of Harold and Kumar. The sessions showed the guys at their most versatile, maneuvering multiple compositions between onscreen image, and the input of sundry movie moguls, and their own indefatigable originality.

NPR’s World Café returned to Dubway for an exclusive performance/interview with songwriter and performer Steve Earle, and his electric live band, The Dukes (and Duchesses) featuring Allison Moorer. 

Breakthru Radio, in partnership with Dubway Studios, recorded alt country darlings Ollabelle as they crafted a song from scratch with writer Ben Arthur, and recorded and produced it, all in a single day. 

The Young People's Chorus of New York City spent several days in Dubway's Mezzanine recording a series of original compositions. The pieces were commissioned by the YPC and featured several prominent contemporary composers, including Meredith Monk, Paquito D'Rivera, Bora Yoon, and Rob Kapilow and Fred Newman, all of whom attended the sessions. Canteloupe Music plans to release the performances in January of 2012. John Thayer assisted the engineer on the sessions, which involved choruses of up to 45 voices.

An ADR session was scheduled for MRB Productions (LA) for the upcoming release Grassroots, had actors Lauren Ambrose, Chris MacDonald and Emily Bergl in the studio. Directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal (the father to Jake and Maggie), Cobie Smulders and Jason Biggs also star in the movie, which is based on a true story: "A short-tempered, unemployed music critic who likes to dress as a polar bear thinks he can harness the power of the people to ride the monorail to political victory in Seattle. And he’s right. Almost."

Steve Earle is promoting his new album I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive and debut novel of the same name, kicking off a tour through the US and Europe that will occupy him and his band through Christmas.

Journalist Steve Pressman was working on his documentary, "To Save a Life." The film tells the story of Gilbert and Eleanor Kraus, a Jewish couple from Philadelphia who traveled to Nazi Germany in 1939 and, with the help of the B'rith Sholom fraternal organization, saved 50 Jewish children in Vienna from likely death in the Holocaust by finding them new homes in Philadelphia. Peter Riegert (The Sopranos,M.A.S.H.) performed narration.

The series is called Dubway Days, and will involve a succession of artists presented in a similar manner. It’s an intimate look at the songwriting and music recording process, as evidenced by some real pros. The premier episode of Dubway Days featured artist Vienna Teng.

Theater legend Liz Swados (The Runaways) tracked & mixed two entire musicals, Revolting Rhymes and The Incredible Feelings Show at Dubway Studios this season.The Mezzanine space hosted the tracking sessions, while the main floor studios accommodated the mixes. Chris Abell engineered the sessions.

Songwriting legend Chip Taylor (Wild Thing, Angel of the Morning) was back in the studio with his great band surreptitiously donned "The BogieMen" during the sessions, as they were cutting an album dealing entirely with golf one of Chip's several disparate and successful career paths. The whole album was tracked in two days, live (including lead vocals), in Dubway's Mezzanine recording space.

Randy Hobler made use of Dubway's myriad recording environments to demo up his musical, The Spirit of River City. In development for years, the piece has already garnered awards and acclaim.

Congratulations to Nick, Jr. on the January premier of its new children’s animation series "Bubble Guppies."  Dubway was responsible for all NY dialog recording, and in partnership with affiliate Rhumba Recorders, provided the final broadcast mix for all 20 episodes. "Bubble Guppies" is currently the #1 most popular kid’s pre-school TV show. Dubway and Rhumba are currently hard at work on Season 2.

Kevin Mambo, Abena Koomson and director Bill T. Jones of the 11 Tony-nominated Broadway smash hit Fela! were in Dubway tracking some voiceover for pre-recorded segmants of the show with Dubway engineer Chris Abell.

Cabaret singer Joey Contreras was in with Dubway engineer Chris Abell mixing his new album.

Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic fame was in with producer Evan Taylor and Dubway engineer Eric Spring tracking songs for an upcoming album project on CMH Records. 

Cast members of the Broadway musical comedy hit The Battery’s Down were in tracking and mixing some songs for the show with Dubway engineer Chris Abell. 

The ever popular cabaret singer-performer Scott Alan has been at Dubway all summer long recording his new album with engineer Paul Vasquez. 

Breakthru Radio brought in John Wesley Harding for a live on-air performance for the popular internet radio program. 

Actor Rainn Wilson, star of the NBC hit television show The Office was in tracking an Apple iTunes Celebrity Playlist Podcast with Dubway enginer Keith Rigling. 

Jason Marcucci and Mike Judeh tracked Vampire Weekend for an iTunes Exclusive six-song EP with producer Suzanne Varney.

Sh-K-Boom Records brought in The Boxer Rebellion to track some songs for a new project.

New York artist Jeff Gordon brought in Patti Smith to record tracks for his new Sony Music release of poems and other works.

Nick Jr.'s children’s television show Bubble Guppies continues tracking voice-over’s and songs for the upcoming series with Dubway engineer Stephen Schappler. 

Suze Orman was in Dubway’s Yellow Room, recording a VO for Interactive Games Group with Keith Rigling.

Documentary film makers Red Glass Pictures were at Dubway tracking voiceover for a series of short films to be featured at the new Jewish-American Museum in Philadelphia later this year.  The films feature Jewish-American heros.  Chris Camilleri engineered.

Dubway has been very busy wrapping up the summer with some very big artists. Dubway engineers Jason Marcucci and Mike Judeh tracked Vampire Weekend for an iTunes Exclusive six-song EP with producer Suzanne Varney. The band has been busy on the road promoting their new album Contra, on XL Recordings.

In Dubway’s Yellow Room, film maker Paul Grissomput the finishing touches on his new film “Radio Hate” with Dubway engineer Keith Rigling. The film is a Sundance Film Festival contender. Wrapping up 2010, Kaos Studios completed recording voices and sound effects in preparation for the release of THQ’s “Homefront,” an interactive game depicting the resistance movement in an America occupied by a hostile North Korean aggressor. Homefront was released early this year to critical acclaim. Dubway’s Chris Abell, an avid gamer himself, was thrilled to engineer the sessions.

Chip Taylor (who penned “Wild Thing,” and “Angel of the Morning,” among other hits) was back in Dubway, but this time in the new 42 Broadway facility, recording and mixing tracks for his upcoming release “Rock and Roll Joe.” Mike Judeh was the tracking engineer.

Tracking at Dubway this month, Steven Bernstein’s infamous New York City jazz ensembleSex Mob.  Band members Tony Scherr (bass),Briggan Krauss (sax), Kenny Wollesen (drums), andSteven Bernstein (slide trumpet) were in Dubway’s Yellow Room laying down tracks for a new album in the works.  Old friend and multi-instrumentalist Doug Wieselman happened to be around the studio and was recruited to play clarinet.  Mike Judeh recorded the session.

Two-time Tony Award winning actress/singer Christine Ebersole was in Dubway tracking songs for her new album release simply titled Christine Ebersole sings Noel Coward.  The fourteen-track CD is set to be released by Sh-K-Boom Records and was produced by Ms. Ebersole’s long time musical director Larry Yurman.  Dubway engineer Chris Abell recorded the sessions.

Ben Arthur and Vienna Teng were in for a new Internet TV show about the process of writing a song.  The show still in the works, is a joint-venture with Dubway Studios.  Chris Abell engineered.

In Dubway’s Yellow Room this month, Breakthru Radio hosted a live performance and interview with the multi-award winning Australian artist Sarah Blasko.  Ms. Blasko is currently on a promotional tour in America supporting her new release As Day Follows Night.  Dubway enginer Stephen Schappler tracked the session.

Our friends over at Duotone brought in their new film project.  A wonderful series of short films titled “Hardest Working (insert job title here) in America” directed by legendary film maker Albert Maysles.  The series offers an inside look at regular people around the country, hard-working Americans who go to work everyday and are good at what they do.  Some of the “Hardest Working People” include a Cattle Rancher, Web Entrepreneur, Baker, and a Coach.  Keith Rigling tracked the underscore sessions.

Composer Rob Simonsen (500 Days of Summer, Little Miss Sunshine, Capote) was in tracking underscore for the new feature documentary film LOVE ETC. by director Jill Andresevic (I Heart New York, The Lazarus Effect).  The film documents five intimate journeys of modern love over the course of one year in New York City.  From teenage romance to a decades-long marriage, from newlyweds to a divorced dad navigating the dating scene.  The session was recorded by Keith Rigling.

Mountain music artist Hope Nunnery has a new project in the works and was in Dubway’s Yellow Room with her band tracking new songs.  Danny Lawrence tracked the session.
