Dubway recently had the pleasure of hosting a rare session featuring legendary saxophonist Giuseppi Logan accompanied by the incomparable Jessica Lurie and Ed Pettersen, of the Mad King Edmund collective. The group was building off the work they did here last year and providing some fresh tracks of pure improv with Guiseppi and Jessica switching instruments on the fly, interweaving their performances with the guitar and bass of Ed and bassist Larry Roland. Legendary Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri spent some time tracking & mixing several songs, making good use of Dubway’s selection of vintage keys (Hammond B3 with Leslie, Wurlitzer, Juno 106), as well as the grand piano, and augmenting with a few of his own exotic machines. Songwriting legend Chip Taylor (Wild Thing, Angel of the Morning) was back in the studio with his great band surreptitiously donned "The BogieMen" during the sessions, as they were cutting an album dealing entirely with golf one of Chip's several disparate and successful career paths. The whole album was tracked in two days, live (including lead vocals), in Dubway's Mezzanine recording space.

Randy Hobler made use of Dubway's myriad recording environments to demo up his musical, The Spirit of River City. In development for years, the piece has already garnered awards and acclaim.

NPR’s World Café returned to Dubway for an exclusive performance/interview with songwriter and performer Steve Earle, and his electric live band, The Dukes (and Duchesses) featuring Allison Moorer. The six-piece band recorded live in the studio’s Mezzanine, comfortably spread out with easy sight lines. WXPN’s host interviewed Steve between songs and monitored the mix via an ISDN connection. Congratulations to Nick, Jr. on the January premier of its new children’s animation series "Bubble Guppies."  Dubway was responsible for all NY dialog recording, and in partnership with affiliate Rhumba Recorders, provided the final broadcast mix for all 20 episodes. "Bubble Guppies" is currently the #1 most popular kid’s pre-school TV show. Dubway and Rhumba are currently hard at work on Season 2.

Breakthru Radio, in partnership with Dubway Studios, recorded alt country darlings Ollabelle as they crafted a song from scratch with writer Ben Arthur, and recorded and produced it, all in a single day. (No fooling – there was no song at the day’s start!) The whole process was video taped, and is currently viewable as a 5 part episode online. The series is called Dubway Days, and will involve a succession of artists presented in a similar manner. It’s an intimate look at the songwriting and music recording process, as evidenced by some real pros. The premier episode of Dubway Days featured artist Vienna Teng.

The ever popular cabaret singer-performer Scott Alan has been at Dubway all summer long recording his new album with engineer Paul Vasquez.  The album is slated for release later this year and has many guest singers including Cheyenne Jackson.  And finally local composer Ian Fiedorek was also at Dubway all summer recording his “Vixurent Symphony” with Dubway engineers Chris Abell and Stephen Schappler.  The symphony is a wild journey of varying beautiful and lush landscapes of imagination.  Look for it later this year.

Documentary film makers Red Glass Pictures were at Dubway tracking voiceover for a series of short films to be featured at the new Jewish-American Museum in Philadelphia later this year.  The films feature Jewish-American heros.  Chris Camilleri engineered.

Dubway has been very busy wrapping up the summer with some very big artists. Dubway engineers Jason Marcucci and Mike Judeh tracked Vampire Weekend for an iTunes Exclusive six-song EP with producer Suzanne Varney. The band has been busy on the road promoting their new album Contra, on XL Recordings.

In Dubway’s Yellow Room, film maker Paul Grissomput the finishing touches on his new film Radio Hate” with Dubway engineer Keith Rigling. The film is a Sundance Film Festival contender. The NYCity Slickers bluegrass band, was in tracking songs for their new album with Dubway engineer Mike Judeh. Wrapping up 2010, Kaos Studios completed recording voices and sound effects in preparation for the release of THQ’s “Homefront,” an interactive game depicting the resistance movement in an America occupied by a hostile North Korean aggressor. Homefront was released early this year to critical acclaim. Dubway’s Chris Abell, an avid gamer himself, was thrilled to engineer the sessions.

Chip Taylor (who penned “Wild Thing,” and “Angel of the Morning,” among other hits) was back in Dubway, but this time in the new 42 Broadway facility, recording and mixing tracks for his upcoming release “Rock and Roll Joe.” Mike Judeh was the tracking engineer.

Composer Rob Simonsen (500 Days of Summer, Little Miss Sunshine, Capote) was in tracking underscore for the new feature documentary film LOVE ETC. by director Jill Andresevic (I Heart New York, The Lazarus Effect).  The film documents five intimate journeys of modern love over the course of one year in New York City.  From teenage romance to a decades-long marriage, from newlyweds to a divorced dad navigating the dating scene.  The session was recorded by Keith Rigling.

New York artist Jeff Gordon has been in Dubway with his new multiple-medium project of art, spoken-word, song, and sound.  The Andy Warhol themed project includes Bob Dylan, Path Soong, Ultra Violet, Chris Makos, Patti Smith, and Lawrence Weiner, among others, and is set to be released on Sony Music later this year.  Chris Camilleri recorded the sessions.
